West Highland Way

May 1998

During the first week of May, 1998, five of us walked the West Highland Way. This long-distance path goes from Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, to Fort William, a distance of 95 miles. We took 6 days to walk the Way, staying in B&B's and bunkhouses. A backup van carried our gear, so we only had to carry day-sacs.

Dave and Dave on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond. Note the sun-hats, for the first couple of days the weather was wonderful !
Pete and Dave by Loch Lomond. The path here has many exposed tree-roots, and is quite difficult going.
Pete & Dave again.
Some friends we met along the way.....
Dave's favourite place to stay - the bunkhouse at Bridge of Orchy. Interesting building, but somewhat lacking in facilities !
Our backup van on the access road to the Mamore Lodge, Kinlochleven. The bridge seemed more precarious than it looks in this picture !
The view to the west, climbing out of Kinlochleven.
We finished ! A day to spare - to climb Ben Nevis.
